Hello Folks, really excited to announce we’ll be launching the EP officially in London on Friday the 27th of April at the Gallery Cafe.
The wonderful guys at http://folkroom.co.uk/ are helping us put it on (check out their label and free Anthology CD). They are a new Folk label (and fortnightly London gig) born out of a love for music, creativity and live music.
We’re also stoked to annouce that also playing on the evening will be two amazing talents, that we’ve become real fans of over the last year, and count ourselves honoured to have them playing!
Laura Hocking - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKSqo__-RH0
Laura is one of those unique talents, who can make everyone in the audience hang on to her every word, chord and melody. Dont take our word for it though;
ForFolksSake.com: brilliantly hummable melodies and masterly storytelling, with sweet vocals belying often brutal lyrics.
O. Chapman - http://soundcloud.com/ochapmanmusic/morningsong
Currently supporting the likes of Daughter and Michelle Stodart as well as playing gigs for Communion Music O Chapman is making big waves in the London music scene.
Forfolksake - O. Chapman makes perfect music – there is nothing that needs to be put in or taken out

Recording I Climbed a tree pt 1 of 3 - Ok this is probably for the sound nerds out there but in case you were interested wanted to let you know about the recording before it was released. It was all recorded by Dave in his studio, we really wanted to keep it as natural as possible, that meant no VST’s (virtual instruments, and where possible no click tracks. The first thing to do was to get a guide track to build the track around for the songs which meant playing the guitar or banjo and singing (For never understood we tracked it like with Dave Dan and James).
Hey guys, we’re really happy to be playing the Bicycle shop in Norwich on Tuesday, will be an awesome night. It’s a highly respected atmospheric venue in the heart of Norwich run Dreams Management and Promotions who are working with some people we’re obsessed with such as Martin Harley and Paper Aeroplanes. We’ll be playing a set along side Josh Bunce.
Tickets available here
Thanks to the guys at the wireless, the gig was great and it’s the second time we’ve played there now loved it both times. We’re lucky that we get to play some great nights, and these guys just put on the night once a month because they love music, and have a reputation for putting on great acts (last night we shared the stage with the excellent Thomas Speight).
The Cha Cha Cha Cafe is transformed into a beautiful candle lit atmospheric venue, with a great audience and great Chilli to boot.

You don’t remember my name,
You wont remember this face,
But I was once where you stood now,
I once stood so proud
You say, I’m told old for this now
Much too old for this crown,
You know I don’t, need it any more,
I’ve had that prize before
Wake me up when you’re growing up,
And the gold has lost its truth,
Know that once we were famous like you
So I’ll raise a blade to your skin,
And I’ll push till you let me in
I just need a drop of your truth,
But either way I’ll lose
And I’m love struck by your eyes,
And I don’t have a reason why,
I should love a heart of stone,
Love a hand so cold,
Wake me up when you’re growing up,
And the gold has lost its truth,
Know that once we were famous like you
There’s a girl across the sky,
And she likes to get high,
As she’s arranging all the flowers for her art.
And the rose is a staple,
For a girl who’s unstable,
She’ll just pick off all the petals in the dark.
Either way leave them at my door,
You know I’ll only ask for more.
She sent them one by one,
And by the time she was done,
I had a room full of roses and ideas.
And rose was pretty,
Though I never felt worthy,
So I gave her something to fear.
Either way leave them at my door,
You know I’ll only ask for more.
Next we danced in the orchard,
Until things got awkward,
And she picked me a orchid for the road.
It’s ok I suppose,
I’ve a room full of Rose,
She’s arranging all the flowers for her art.
A thousand different Islands,
Scattered from their ragged shore,
There’s a brand new mist,
At the ending of a civil war.
The last ship is sinking,
The captain’s escaping with his whore,
He is a coward of a man,
Just watching blankly his crew struggle aboard.
It’s a new day, it’s a new day,
I just can’t think of this no more.
Down among the wastelands,
The canons wont fire anymore,
They’re sick of all the drama,
at the end of the civil war.
The fighters look so graceful,
They’re our hero’s in uniform,
But why did no-one tell them,
Theres no hero’s in a civil war
It’s a new day, it’s a new day,
I just can’t think of this no more.
Nobody knew how to get to her truth,
Was a long line, that led to her door.
When it came to my turn we crashed and I burned,
in the evening, was a battle till dawn.
But its oh so quiet in the morning, When there’s nothing,
But its oh so quiet in the morning, When there’s nothing,
But its oh so quiet in the morning, When there’s nothing left to say.
In morning we’d dance, map travels to France,
And stay here, lost in bed all day.
But as the hours grew old, and the day took its toll,
We ‘re ready, for battle once more.
But its oh so quiet in the morning, When there’s nothing,
But its oh so quiet in the morning, When there’s nothing,
But its oh so quiet in the morning, When there’s nothing left to say.
Nobody knows, it the end where she goes,
Is a long time, waiting on her call.
Now love I’m low, I have nowhere to go,
And I’m longing, to do battle again.
Well I stole your picture,
Hibernated in your bed,
Took some souvenirs from your draw,
So I try to work out why,
This fascination grew,
Why I’m rolling in your clothes down on the floor.
I’ll give them to your brother,
To give back to you,
Goes to show my conscience always cares,
Now I’ve left you a note,
And pinned to to your ghost,
I hope you’re home the next time that I stay.
Now you’re in my Garden?
Sprawled out on the grass,
A drunk maid borrowing my stuff,
Well I didn’t see this coming,
When I was sleeping in your room,
Truth is that I’ll never get enough.
They say every man must own a shed,
If he is to contemplate his choice,
And that every man will be a preacher,
On the day he finds his voice,
But when I was screaming like an infant,
You ignored me the most,
When you were staring right through me,
I knew then I was a ghost.
So I set fire to my shed then,
On the roof there I was hoist,
But you didn’t even look twice,
And you never heard my voice.
I was screaming like a French girl,
Getting oh so close,
You were staring right through me,
I knew then I was a ghost.
And in my humbling reflection,
Next year I’ll be coy,
All my screaming oh so worthless,
Now please take back my voice.
Who knows what the wind intends from you,
I asked the Gods but they never knew.
The wind was never in their remit,
They left us to shape it as we saw fit.
And now the wind begins to die,
Its knots tangled up in the sky,
Still are the rivers and the trees,
It seems the wind will do at its please.
You know once I tried to control its force,
But sure enough it grew the harder I fought,
Now I know that life will always be ok,
When I just let the wind take me away.
(Thought I’d write this about a rather un-apprecaited creature)
Somewhere on the forest floor,
A crow’s rebuilding a nest,
You banished him from your bedroom wall,
Without food or rest,
And he’s sick with rejection,
But he’s building up his home,
From time to time you wonder,
Where that crow has flown.
Somewhere on the forest floor,
Nowhere to be seen,
So dry your guilty hands,
They aren’t washing clean
And now you’re remorseful,
I fear your not alone,
‘Cause no one in the forest,
Appreciates the crow
(here’s another one I did last week, will come back and edit them next week, which would you like to see made into songs?)
The say every man must have a shed,
To contemplate his every choice,
They say every man will be a preacher,
Only when he finds his voice.
I was screaming like an infant,
And you ignored me the most,
As you were staring right through me,
I knew then I was your ghost,
So I set fire to my shed then,
And on the roof I was hoist,
But you never look twice,
And you never heard my voice,
And I was screaming like a French girl,
Getting oh so close,
But you were staring right through me,
I knew then I was your ghost,
And in my humbling reflection,
I think next time I’ll be coy,
All my screaming all for nothing,
And now I have no voice.
Again my Hesitation,
Is the death of me,
I tried to step towards you,
So purposefully,
I tried to be so mindless,
But the further in I lent,
The more my heart was beating,
To the consequence,
Again my hesitation,
The source of my ills,
I prey for greater answers,
But God wouldn’t stay still,
I tried to be so thoughtless,
It was all too much,
And now my head is weak,
But my heart is tough.
Again my hesitation,
Drags me down,
My thoughts of motivation,
Sound stupid out loud,
And in the final hours,
As you make your escape,
I call you back to my place,
With something to say.
(this one is work in progress, it’s one of the few I have music for)
Don’t you question,
What It’ll do,
‘Cause It’ll set my soul on fire and give it to you,
And don’t step out
On these sands
It’s all we have left in this baron lands
Still we all fall down and worship the sun
Still we all fall down when night wont come
And the water,
It’s long gone,
Taken to the heavens by a fiery Sun,
(I told you) don’t question,
Why it’s here,
Now like wirey trees you’re all collapsing in fear.
Still we all fall down and worship the sun
Still we all fall down when night wont come
(sorry these are all delayed I had no internet in Adelaide am just uploading them all now!)
I my dreams
I saw a girl, dark hair,
She is a poet,
It’s romantic, I know,
But I can be.
She wears,
Glasses like John,
Lennon and
Maybe her poetry is
A little like his.
In my dreams,
She is anxious, doesn’t,
Do restraint,
Her skin is pale, her
eyes are brown
She of course
Is a dreamer and we’ll
Move abroad,
France, write and drink,
Red wine, Coffee.
Last night that,
same girl awoke with me,
Her name was,
Anne, She was everything,
I imagined.
So this one was fairly rushed as I was at the MCG in Melbourne and am now off to Adalaide, hope you like it!
Sleep lightly old friend, I’ve noticed you trailing my scent
I’ve noticed you follow me closer than my shadow,
Selflessly helping me at times I never deserved,
And kissing my feet everywhere I go
I must admit to liking the attention,
But I know not what you crave
Or maybe I do know now
and will just humour your ways
Sleep lightly old friend, I found you smelling my clothes,
and my mind flickered, rolled, years back,
When were collided for a few days in the spring,
The dirty sheets and candle wax
I know you lust for more
though you say your my friend
But I still like the attention
And I’m happy to pretend
I found hope in these waters, in the simple life of sin,
And I swam east to west shore to shore
I found grace in the forest, she was resting in the leaves
And I climbed higher than I had before
And said Oh can you see me
And said Oh can you hear me
So I jump from the pinetrees, from the rooftop from the sun,
And my bones crash down to the floor,
I found warmth in her footprints, that I followed to the sea,
Where her body lay glistening on the shore
And said Oh can you see me
And said Oh can you hear me
I was hungry for your skin
I did not know where to begin
And I’d been to your heaven once,
But I didn’t try hard enough
Oh but we were blessed
Under an auban sky
And you weren’t impressed
But I know next time I’ll try
I was waiting for your touch,
But I didn’t wait long enough
And from our lonely attic home
I worked out you were gone
Oh but we were blessed
Under an auban sky
And you weren’t impressed
But I know next time I’ll try
And I searched for something new
For a springtime vows renews
I found you in everyone
But it never was enough
Never understood why the world stood still,
Whilst all around me moved I couldn’t feel what they feel,
Never understood why I spoke and no-one heard,
and the messages I wrote got broken and blurred,
But I know now why,
But I know now why,
‘Cause I never even tried,
Never understood why these wings wouldn’t fly,
above your bedroom wall see the stories in your eyes,
Never understood why it had to be this way,
Your figure moves close but the ground beneath us breaks,
But I know now why,
But I know now why,
Cause I never even tried,
So I stood by the Road,
But no-one saw my ghost,
And I stood by the road,
But no-one saw my ghost,
Never understood why we had to grow old,
Couldn’t live like this forever, watch the story as it unfolds,
Never understood why I spoke and no-one heard,
and the messages I wrote got broken and blurred,
Morning wont you carry me away,
‘cause I’m older and I just cant face the day,
Again she emerges and dissapears
Shes been playing with colours for all these years
Last night our canvas has been torn,
though Id been sleeping like a soldier at war
That evening is weighing on my soul
How she sketched all my life in monochrome
Grey eyes her skin was made of stone,
She’s the artist with all her colours gone
Evening wont you hold me close tonight
Cause I’m older and I just can’t take the light
Sighs of night, and the quiet storms un-stirred
Where Souls wonder on, to a dawn that they once heard
Words, echoing, watch her sing in a haunted voice
She preys, trembling, as she clings to her last choice
And give me to this haunted night
Hide me under veiled light
The Small hours fade, getting frayed among the mist
Her dark, figure roams, unknown but for a kiss
And give me to this haunted night
Hide me under veiled light
And give me to this haunted night
Hide me under veiled light
Oh Give me to the Night
Oh Give me to the Night
Oh Give me to the Night
Oh Give me to the Night
My soul’s been haunted by the sun
It’s been trying hard not to hide
But the world kept it inside
And the shadows they deepened in my mind
Shattered words that never were said
Are the ones that imprint on my head
But in the silent morning she knocked at my door
And she promised me, I will suffer no more
Light bends and it scatters on her face,
Un-veiling a love to find
Leaving the darkness behind
To the widowed silence I must toast
Its a long time spent in the dark
When your never making you mark
But Then In the silent evening she knocked at my door
And she promised me, I will suffer no more
She’s hearing my words, when I’ve nothing to say
We’ve unveiled the light, and forgotten our mistakes
The Scars are lost, and this head no longer sore
And its time, that I suffered no more
My soul been haunted by the sun
And there’s glass all over the floor
But I will suffer no more
She talks with bluest eyes
And I beg her for her lies
She says I’m waiting, oh where have you been?
But I’m desperate not to touch
Her hand of quiet lust
She says I’m aching, oh where have you been?
Oh carve me, out of stone
She’ll Sand me down
Oh Carve me, till im unknown
Cos I’ll never be this far
I fall in out the rain
To these same walls again
She said I’m waiting oh where have you been?
I’ll try heading for the door
But it’s a face I can’t ignore,
Says I’m shaking oh where have you been
Oh carve me, out of stone
She’ll Sand me down
Oh Carve me, till im unknown
Cos I’ll never be this far
Far far Away from myself
Far far and under your spell

“Usurping the standard folk formula and carving a niche of their own, Gerard and Frid have a habit of grabbing what ever instrument comes to hand — be it guitar, banjo, mandolin… — retuning it and going from there. With rich harmonies meeting melody full on, Gerard and Frid could be the next alt folk heros.” The Wireless
We’re going to make a prediction. By the end of 2012, Dave Gerard will be signed on a top notch folk label like Bella Union with an album out that was rated 4/5 by The Times and 8.2 on Pitchfork. WeWriteLists
